How ideas become buildings in Australia

House rules

Editorial standards

This is a journal, not a brochure. The reader should be able to tell a reported fact from an opinion, and a useful link from a paid one.

Accuracy

We write in Australian English and we use Australian instruments by their right names: the National Construction Code, development applications, complying development, AS 2870, AS 3600, superintendent, preliminaries, PC sums. If a state rule differs, we say which state. We do not invent case studies.

Independence

Staff essays are not for sale. Guest essays follow the write-for-us rules. A commercial relationship is disclosed on the page. Paid or guest-post links use rel="sponsored".

Corrections

If we get a number, a code clause or a name wrong, we fix it in place and keep a short note at the foot of the essay when the change is material. Send evidence through contact.

Images

We only publish Creative Commons or public-domain images, self-hosted in this repository, with the author and licence on the page and on image credits. We do not scrape stock libraries and hope.

What we are not

We are not your architect, builder, lawyer or certifier. Nothing here is professional advice for a named project. If a job is live, hire the person who will sign the drawing.
